Philosophy
First and foremost, photography should capture the actual experience and be non-intrusive.
I want to document in a realistic way the beauty and excitement of the day.
During a 'planning consultaion' I collaborate with my clients to learn of their vision and how best to actualize it to film.
I began my professional career as a newspaper
photojournalist specializing in black & white documentaries. As I
began working with private clients, my style grew to include more traditional
color portraiture.
My first studio was located in Southern Pines,
NC where I also was an educator. I taught and managed the photography
curriculum at Sandhills Community College for ten years.
In the late 80's, I took a break and headed to
sea - literally. After spending a couple of years rebuilding a 37 foot
sloop, I single-handed her throughout the Bahamas.
Returning from my cruise in 1990, I established
my practice here in Chapel Hill. Our current studio, designed into a sloping
wooded lot, was completed in 1992. Since that time, my practice has grown
and become exclusively oriented to weddings and bridal portraiture.
My work has been featured in Elegant Bride, Southern
Bride & Groom as well as Premier Bride. I also maintain a strong network
of wedding related connections.
